MISSOURI JUVENILE COURT
Juvenile Court Jurisdiction
Jurisdiction over persons under 17 years old when crime was committed. ( 211.021 & 211.031). Jurisdiction may be retained until defendant turns 21, however, juvenile court has no jurisdiction over any person alleged to have committed a crime after turning 17. ( 211.041)
Juvenile court, on own motion or upon motion of prosecutor, may order a hearing to consider transfer to adult court of any juvenile 12+ and accused of a felony. Court must consider factors set forth in 211.071(6)(1)-(10) (generally relating to seriousness of offense and history of the juvenile). ( 211.071).
Court must conduct a hearing to consider transfer to adult court where the juvenile is accused of any of the serious violent felonies listed in 211.071(1), or where the juvenile has two or more prior felony convictions.
