$30,000 Settlement Reached in False Arrest Case

July 28th, 2008

A woman living in Syracuse, New York, recently reached a settlement in the suit she filed against the city for her false arrest and imprisonment.

The arrest occurred four years ago and since this time the woman, was arrested on drug charges and despite her pleads with the officers, was taken to the Auburn Police Station.

Law Enforcement Agents Make False Arrest

Teresa Morris says she was getting ready to leave for work on the day when three law enforcement officers came to her home and arrested her on cocaine-related charges.

Morris, who was 39 at the time, was handcuffed in front of her son and taken to the police station where she was questioned, fingerprinted and photographed.

Mother Spends Day in Jail

After three hours of being in jail, the officers realized they had the wrong person, apologized, and took her home, with her handcuffs still on.

According to the suit filed by Morris, she suffered from post-traumatic stress syndrome. She filed the suit against the city claiming false arrest and imprisonment, assault and battery and for the violation of her constitutional rights.

The case was settled this week and Morris was compensated $30,000 in damages for the incident.

Man Accused of Road Rage Claims Innocence

June 23rd, 2008

A Denver man is currently fighting to stay out of jail after supposedly being falsely accused of road rage.

The man has been charged with hitting another driver during a road rage incident that took place in Colorado.

Accident Leads to Rage

Eddie Calhoun, 44, is an employee for the city of Denver and says he was plowing the streets last January when the incident happened.

He claims that the only connection he has to the accident is that the abandoned truck being driven by the suspect was left behind his mother’s house.

When his nephew told Calhoun that officers were looking for him, he willingly went to City Hall, where he was arrested.

Victim Pleads with Officers

Calhoun was arrested for assault and reckless endangerment and he was reportedly forced to post $25,000 bail.

“I have been falsely arrested and wrongly accused,” says Calhoun.

The woman in the victim’s car has even reported to police that Calhoun is not the man who launched the attack.

“It is a case of false arrest and sloppy police work,” says Calhoun’s attorney, Alvertis Simmons.
