WASHINGTON JUVENILE COURT ATTORNEY
Juvenile Court Jurisdiction
Juvenile Court has jurisdiction over persons less than 18 years old when case is charged. ( 13.40.020; 13.40.300). Court may retain jurisdiction to 21st birthday. ( 13.40.300).
Prosecutor or court may request a hearing to consider transferring any juvenile to adult court. ( 13.40.110(1)). Court may transfer a case if it makes findings set forth in 13.40.110(2). Where defendant is 15-17 years old, and accused of crimes listed at 13.40.110(1)(a)-(c) court must hold a transfer hearing, but transfer is discretionary. ( 13.40.110).
