As reported on the front page of the Los Angeles Times, January 9th, 2017, Raymond Lee Jennings, a security guard who was convicted of killing
an 18 year old teenager in Palmdale, California, and served over a decade
in prison, was found innocent of the charges. The irony is the same district
attorney’s office that prosecuted him is now fighting to have the
case dropped.
Los Angeles County prosecutors filed a letter in court this week saying
based on newly discovered evidence pointing to Jenning’s innocence
that the conviction should be tossed. Out. Jenning’s had been sentenced
to 40 years to life in prison. This involved multiple trials with hung
juries and yet the DA still kept pushing for trial after trial until they
got what they wanted, a conviction for this innocent man.
Jenning’s has spent 11 years in prison for a crime he didn’t
commit and constantly thinks about the effect this has had on his family
including the children he has never seen grow up or the life experiences
that were taken from him. If anyone can imagine this happening to them
and their families, the thought would be terrifying.
